Which Escape Room Character Are You?

No two games are ever the same in an Escape Room. You see, what makes each game so unique is the individuals who step across the Games Master’s threshold and race against the clock.

Your team will always be the making or breaking of your success in an Escape Room. Communication, listening, co-operating, time management and creative thinking are just some of the skills required to succeed.

While you might be a sudoku king, gamer, book worm or unsure of what your talents are, Escape Rooms are designed for everyone to enjoy. Here we take a look at some of our favourite Escape Room character archetypes that we’ve seen over the years:

The Hero

Move over, Superman; this puzzle-solving saviour has got it going on!

You might be unassuming to the outside world, but place yourself inside a “locked” room for 60 minutes, and your inner hero is unleashed. You try to be everything to everyone, and before you know it, you’ve rescued the damsel in (apparent) distress and found the key to the hidden door.

Win or lose, the biggest victory for you is keeping everyone upbeat and getting them all to safety before the final minute.

The Drill Sergeant

You eat puzzles for breakfast.

No pain, no gain is your motto for life and Escape Room’s are child’s play to you. Once your team is assembled, it’s time to start barking orders at them. Losing isn’t optional.

As the minutes tick by, you wonder how these people ever made the cut. With their lack of camo paint and their ill-advised clothing, one thing’s for sure, some of them won’t be invited along to the next game.

While Full Metal Jacket is your life’s dream, these rotten scoundrels are all you’ve got to survive.

The Worker Ant

Leadership’s not really your thing.

Rallying around confident, assured people helps you feel more comfortable in the world. Enter an Escape Room, and having a set of instructions is not only a necessity for you to thrive, but it makes you feel safe.

But you’re not a sit-around-and-wait-for-the-next-beat person either. You work your way around the room with proficiency and always with your final goal in mind: to present your findings to your leader.

The Emerging Talent

What self-confidence?

On the outside world, you doubt yourself all the time. You’re unsure where you really fit and what skills you possess.

Lock you in an Escape Room, and all of your fears and doubts are left at the door.

You suddenly realise that you’re good at something! Whether that’s communicating effectively, spotting hard to find clues or putting two and two together to solve the case – you’ve not only got it, but you’re excelling in there!

The Detective

Sherlock, eat your heart out!

You’ve read all the bestselling thrillers of our time, beaten the character to the punch in the latest detective mystery and solved some of the unsolved cases that have haunted the world for years. Enter the Escape Room, and it’s your time to shine in the detective’s chair.

The “devil is always in the detail” is your motto, and working around the room, you leave no chair unturned, no paper unread. You get on your hands and knees and feel around for hidden keys, clues and hinges. Nothing escapes you, and this game is no different.

Your team is united by the common goal: to make your escape, but to you, the only sense of achievement will come from solving the case before your time is up.

The Enigma Machine

Code is your game.

You specialise in seeing the unseen, the patterns in nature and those man-made. Just by looking at a set of numbers, you can read beyond what the ink is telling you.

On entering an Escape Room, you quickly identify the key features of the room and their purpose. You go straight to the star players in the room, that will soon gather the information you require to decode the mystery.

The Viking

Death or Valhalla!

Settling is not in your nature. You see a slice of land and the promise in it, and the harvest is there for the picking! You want it, so you’ll take it no matter what’s at stake.

Entering a game, you’re all guns a-blazing. You need to seek, discover, pillage, and destroy your enemies – the ghastly clock! Defeat is not an option. The final jewel is stepping out beyond this room’s realm and into the next life to sup alongside Odin and Thor with your kin.

The Storyteller

Words are your weapon of choice.

While your team gathers around and looks for the physical evidence hidden in the room, your attention is automatically grabbed by the bookshelf, the pages in the typewriter and the etchings on the wall.

You speak literature. You see the order in the chaos and the meaning behind chosen words. Just looking at your game’s objective, you can already dot some of the I’s and cross the T’s.

The Gamer

“I completed Ressy Evil and Tomb Raider in my sleep!”

Gaming isn’t just a hobby to you; it’s a lifestyle, and getting to fully immerse yourself in an interactive experience that places you in the heart of a live-action game, is just the latest thing to induce a nerdgasm.

You get to embody all the things you love about your first-person games and become the hero of your own story. With 60 minutes on the clock, the show is about to begin.

The Illusionist

The first rule about Fight Club is that you don’t talk about Fight Club. The Magic Circle is no different.

You love the twists and turns of illusions. The power of sleight of hand and the air of intrigue and mystery that comes with the simplest of tricks. To you, an Escape Room embodies this ethos, and you’re not about to be outdone by the biggest illusion of them all.
